About Justin Lewis

I’m a Linux System Administrator based in Houston, Texas, with a background that spans civil engineering, contract management, insurance claims, and now IT infrastructure. My path into tech wasn’t traditional, and that’s exactly why I built this blog.

After nearly a decade working in high-pressure field and operations environments, I made a deliberate transition into IT, earning my Red Hat Certified System Administrator (RHCSA) and CompTIA Security+ certifications and putting in the work to build hands-on skills in Linux administration, automation, and infrastructure. I currently work as a Linux System Administrator at Pro-core Plus, where I manage RHEL/CentOS environments, automate system configuration with Ansible, harden server security, and maintain infrastructure monitoring across platforms like Nagios, Foreman, and Graylog.

My technical foundation includes:

  • Operating Systems: RHEL, Rocky Linux, Ubuntu
  • Automation & Scripting: Ansible, Bash, Python
  • Networking: TCP/IP, DNS, DHCP, SSH, Firewalld
  • Security: SELinux, system hardening, vulnerability scanning (Lynis, OpenVAS)
  • Virtualization & Containers: KVM, VMware vSphere, Docker, Podman
  • Cloud: Amazon Web Services (AWS)
  • Monitoring: Nagios, CheckMK, Graylog

Why I Started JustinTime Blogs

When I was transitioning into IT, I spent a lot of time searching for content that was practical, clear, and written for people who were actually learning, not just reference documentation written for people who already knew the answer. I did not always find it.

JustinTime Blogs exists to fill that gap. Whether you are setting up your first homelab, trying to understand how DNS actually works, or looking to get started with Linux, my goal is straightforward: take the complexities of technology and make them easier to understand.

I write about the topics I work with every day: System Administration, Networking, Homelabs, DevOps, and Beginner Guides — from the perspective of someone who has actually gone through the learning curve. No fluff, no assumed knowledge, just practical content you can apply.
